INTRO

Community centres and creative hubs have become key urban infrastructures in response to social fragmentation, remote work, and the need for resilient local networks. Today, these spaces combine production, learning, food, and public life to create hybrid environments rooted in everyday culture.

Local identity is strengthened through food traditions, craft, and social rituals, while urban farming reconnects citizens with seasonality and ecology. The quality of experience in such places is defined by atmosphere, accessibility, inclusivity, and shared authorship. Interior design plays a strategic role in shaping encounters, activating neighbourhood energy, and supporting sustainable urban economies.

BRIEF

Design a 500 square meter community centre and hub integrating workshops, a community kitchen, an open cafeteria, and an urban garden.

The programme can be distributed across multiple floors, and interior–exterior thresholds should be considered part of the design. Define a specific location and clearly explain the urban, social, and cultural context, justifying why this site benefits from a community driven food and making hub. Target users include local residents, workers, makers, students, and visitors.

The proposal must prioritise meaningful user experiences for both workers and guests through spatial sequences, material choices, sensory qualities, and flexibility of use. Strong emphasis is on research into local food culture, production methods, and community practices. User scenarios, daily rhythms, and seasonal transformations must be clearly illustrated and form the basis of the design concept.
