INTRO
Fashion is not only a form of aesthetic expression but also a vessel for preserving cultural memory.
This project encourages to reconnect with traditional artisanal practices from the native country, investigating how these time-honoured techniques can inspire and shape innovative, contemporary fashion. Through research, experimentation, and design, you will reinterpret these crafts, giving them new relevance in the context of sustainable and forward-thinking fashion design.
BRIEF
Investigate a lesser-known or regionally specific artisanal technique from your home country and explore its creative potential within a contemporary fashion context. The selected technique may involve textile manipulation, surface treatment, weaving, embroidery, dyeing, or other forms of traditional craftsmanship.
Conduct research into the origin, materials, processes, and cultural relevance of the technique. The goal is to gain a respectful and in-depth understanding of the practice, which can be supported by field research, interviews, or archival studies.
Based on your findings and creative direction, you will design a capsule collection of four outfits, where the artisanal technique is visibly present or harmoniously combined with other craftsmanship methods. This collection should balance heritage with innovation, reflecting a unique design identity while elevating the traditional technique to a new, fashion- forward context.
The outcome should demonstrate how tradition can be transformed and sustained through contemporary design, storytelling, and ethical creativity.
